A personal health companion for complex conditions.
Salve helps people managing chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, and any health picture complex enough that keeping it all in one place actually matters. Your records, your patterns, your data, your account.

The problem
If you live with a chronic condition, or several of them, you know the drill: one portal for your PCP, another for your specialist, a third for labs, an app for your smart scale, a different one for your CGM, a screenshot of yesterday's blood pressure, a note in your phone about that weird symptom last Tuesday. When an appointment comes up, you spend the waiting room pulling it all together by memory.
Most health apps are built for one thing: steps, or sleep, or periods, or medications. They're good at that one thing. They don't talk to each other, they don't know about each other, and they certainly don't notice that your headache severity tracks your sleep from two nights ago.
Salve is the app for people whose health doesn't fit into one app.
What Salve does
Medications with drug interaction checking
Your complete medication list with dosing, refill tracking, prescriber, and pharmacy. Drug data sourced from RxNorm (the NLM's drug vocabulary) and OpenFDA (drug labels with contraindications, side effects, dosing guidance). Interaction checks between your medications. Allergy cross-reactivity alerts when adding a new drug. Wholesale price lookups via the CMS NADAC dataset.
Vitals tracking with wearables
Heart rate, blood pressure, weight, temperature, glucose, SpO2, respiration, sleep, steps, active energy. Charts with reference ranges and automatic abnormal-value flagging. Connect Oura, Fitbit, Dexcom, Withings, or Whoop directly, or import from Apple Health, Samsung Health, Garmin, or 14 other trackers listed below.
Sage, the AI health companion
A chat companion that knows your records. Ask about your medications, interpret abnormal labs, prep for appointments, draft insurance appeals, explain what a diagnosis means in plain English. Powered by Google Gemini (free) or Anthropic Claude (premium). Every AI feature requires your explicit consent, revocable in Settings at any time.
Journal with pattern detection
Write entries with mood, symptoms, severity, and what's helping. Sage spots patterns across weeks: pain correlated with sleep quality, mood dips before periods, pressure swings triggering migraines. Multi-select emotion chips, voice input, prompts that adapt to your mood.
Conditions and care team
Track every diagnosis with status, onset, and notes. Link conditions to the medications you take for them and the specialists you see. Provider directory with NPI lookup, address, portal links, and cross-references to prescribed medications.
Appointments with prep
Schedule visits, auto-fill location from your provider's address, link to telehealth URLs. Sage drafts questions for you based on your conditions and recent symptoms. Video-call links, Google Calendar one-tap add, post-visit notes.
Labs with interpretation
Enter lab results manually or paste from a MyChart export. Automatic reference ranges for ~80 common tests, abnormal-value flagging, and AI interpretation that factors in your conditions and medications.
Cycle tracking
Period, ovulation, BBT (basal body temperature), cervical mucus, fertility markers. BBT auto-sync from Oura Ring. 4-level mucus tracking with fertility hints. Phase-aware medication cards. Predictions based on your own history, not a population average.
Pharmacogenomics
Import 23andMe, AncestryDNA, Promethease, or Genomind files. Sage matches variants against a curated library of drug-gene interactions (CYP2D6, CYP2C19, HLA-B, COMT, and others) and flags conflicts with your active medications.
Scribe — AI form assistant
Paste a medical intake form (new patient paperwork, specialist referral, annual physical). Sage drafts first-person answers from your records. Sensitive questions (self-harm, trauma, substance use, relationships) are flagged for you to answer personally. Per-answer copy buttons.
Weather and barometric context
For users whose pain, migraines, or joint issues are weather-sensitive, Salve pulls local barometric pressure, temperature, AQI, UV, and pollen data. Pressure trend and 24-hour change attach to journal entries and vitals automatically (opt-in), so patterns like "headache within 6 hours of pressure drop" become visible.
To-do list for health tasks
Refills, follow-up calls, lab retests, insurance appeals. Priority levels, due dates, categories. Recurring to-dos for ongoing tasks. Overdue items surface on your dashboard.
Insurance tracking
Plans, claims, and appeals in one place. Log claim amounts, status, and appeal deadlines. Generate appeal letters with Sage (premium). Running totals of what you've paid out-of-pocket.
How Sage works
Sage is the AI companion inside Salve. It isn't a chatbot that pretends to be a doctor. It's a reader of your records that can explain, summarize, draft, and suggest, always labeled as informational rather than medical advice.
Under the hood, Sage runs on two AI providers:
- Google Gemini on the free tier. Handles general chat, daily insights, news summarization, and simpler features.
- Anthropic Claude on the premium tier. Used for complex reasoning, long-context analysis, and AI-powered data control (adding medications, logging vitals, and similar tool use via natural language chat).
Every AI interaction requires explicit consent the first time. The consent gate is revocable in Settings, and you can still use Salve fully as a manual tracker without AI.
When you use Sage, a sanitized profile of your health records is sent to the AI provider per request. Salve's serverless functions act as a relay. Salve's own app does not persist raw AI request payloads outside the chat history and long-term context features you choose to save. Each AI provider processes the data it receives under their own usage policy.
Daily usage limits apply on the free tier. The premium tier has higher limits, unlimited saved chat history, and access to AI features like drug-gene conflict analysis, appointment prep, appeal drafting, and house consultation.

Who Salve is for
Salve is built for people who see many specialists, take several medications, track multiple conditions, or live with illness where staying on top of the details takes real effort. If you've ever walked into an appointment with a stack of handwritten notes, screenshots of blood pressure readings, and a half-remembered symptom from three weeks ago, Salve is for you.
Common profiles include:
- Autoimmune disease: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto's, Crohn's, UC, MS, psoriasis, Sjögren's.
- Dysautonomia and cardiovascular: POTS, orthostatic intolerance, Ehlers-Danlos, MCAS, atrial fibrillation, hypertension.
- Chronic pain: fibromyalgia, migraine disorders, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, back pain, joint pain.
- Post-viral and energy-limiting: ME/CFS, long COVID, chronic Lyme, post-viral fatigue.
- Metabolic and GI: diabetes (type 1 and 2), IBS, SIBO, celiac, gastroparesis.
- Mental health and neurodivergence: depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, autism, OCD, bipolar disorder.
- Reproductive: endometriosis, PCOS, fertility tracking, perimenopause.
- Family or caregiver use: anyone managing another person's care, from aging parents to medically complex kids.
Salve is also useful for healthy people who just want a clean, private place to organize their records without being marketed to.
Why Salve exists
Salve is built and maintained by one independent developer caring for a partner managing complex chronic illness. That's the short version.
The longer version: after years of juggling a portal for one specialist, a different app for another, a wearable that doesn't talk to any of it, screenshots of blood pressure readings on a phone, and a stack of handwritten notes for every visit, it became clear that no existing app made it easier to live with complex health instead of harder. Patient portals don't share data with each other. Most health apps optimize for the user who wants to count steps, not the person managing an autoimmune condition across six medications and four specialists. AI health tools generally scrape your data to train their models or sell profiles to advertisers.
Salve is the small, honest alternative. Built because we needed it. Not venture-funded. No investors asking for a unicorn exit. No ads. No data resale. No dark patterns to keep you in the app. The free tier covers everything most people actually need to organize their health, and a premium tier (optional, cancellable in Settings) helps cover the real cost of running the AI features and keeping the lights on.
Being independent shapes the incentives. The whole point is to make one person's health picture less exhausting. If it helps you too, that's a win for everyone. If it doesn't fit your life, the data-export button is in Settings and account deletion cascades across every record in one click.

Privacy and data ownership
Your health data stays in a database scoped to your authenticated account via row-level security. That means ordinary app reads and writes can only ever touch your own rows, enforced at the database level, not relying on the app to ask nicely.
Data cached on your device for offline use is encrypted with AES-GCM using a key derived from your session token. Backup exports can be encrypted with a passphrase of your choosing before you download them.
AI features require explicit consent before any health data is shared with Google or Anthropic, and consent is revocable in Settings. No advertising, no third-party tracking cookies, no cross-site identifiers. Product analytics are limited to short allowlisted event names (example: "medications section opened") and never include your medical content. Usage events auto-purge after 180 days.
HIPAA honesty: Salve is a consumer health app, not a HIPAA-covered entity. This is standard for consumer apps. The
full Privacy Policy is direct about what that means and what protections are in place anyway.

Safety
Salve includes crisis support surfaces for mental health. If the app detects crisis-adjacent language in a journal entry or Sage conversation, it surfaces 988 (US Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), Crisis Text Line, the Trevor Project, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Daily check-ins include a soft "I'm struggling" option that connects you to these resources without requiring AI consent.
Salve is a companion tool, not a medical device. It does not replace emergency services, urgent care, or your medical team. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 (or your local equivalent).
Agency and exit
- Full data export as JSON at any time, optionally AES-GCM encrypted with your own passphrase.
- Permanent account deletion, cascading across every record, one click in Settings. Your authentication record, health data, connected wearables, and all cached content are deleted.

- Works offline for cached records; changes queue and sync when you reconnect.
- Installable as a PWA on iOS (home screen), Android (home screen), Windows, and Mac.

Frequently asked questions
Is Salve a replacement for my doctor?
No. Salve helps you organize records and spot patterns, and helps you prepare for appointments. Every AI suggestion is labeled as informational, not medical advice. Decisions about your care belong with you and your healthcare providers.
Does Salve share my data with anyone?
Only where needed to run a feature you're using: Supabase for database, Vercel for hosting, Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude for AI features you explicitly consent to, wearable APIs you connect, Stripe for payments if you subscribe. We do not sell or rent your data, and there is no advertising. Details in the Privacy Policy.
What if I don't want to use any AI features?
Don't enable AI consent. Salve works fully as a manual tracker without ever sending data to Google or Anthropic. Daily insights, Sage chat, and pattern analysis simply won't appear.
What happens if I stop using Salve?
You can export your complete data as JSON any time. If you delete your account, every record is permanently removed from our database and the cascade runs across every table. There is no "soft delete" or grace period, and there is no archival copy.
Does Salve work offline?
Yes, cached data is available offline, and changes you make while offline queue and sync when you reconnect. The on-device cache is AES-GCM encrypted.
Can I use Salve without email if I'm worried about tracking?
Email is required for account creation and magic-link sign-in. Salve does not use phone or SMS authentication. If you're exploring before committing, the "Try Salve" option on the sign-in screen opens a demo mode with sample data and no account required.
Is Salve HIPAA-compliant?
Salve is a consumer health app and is not a HIPAA-covered entity. This is standard for apps where you enter and manage your own health information. We apply serious data-protection practices (database row-level security, encrypted on-device cache, HTTPS in transit, scoped secrets, scrubbed error reporting). The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what this means for you.
Can I share access with a caregiver or family member?
Not yet. Salve is currently single-user per account. Caregiver sharing is a frequently requested feature on the roadmap.
Who built Salve?
Salve is built by one independent developer caring for a partner with complex chronic illness. Not venture-funded, not a company, not selling your data. Small, careful, developed in direct response to the reality of managing multi-condition health. The "Why Salve exists" section above has the full story.
